The Homeowner’s Guide to Improving Comfort in Every Room

Qylendrise Vyxorith 3 min read

It’s the season to think about being comfy and cozy—then again, when is there not a reason to think about being comfy and cozy?

Our homes are the place we go to when we want to escape from the world, perhaps too often, and how comfy we feel is a big part of how happy we feel in our home. And it’s not just that; it’s how your guests feel when they come into your home.

If you want to consider ways to improve the level of comfort in the main rooms of your home, read on to find out how we’d do it.

The Living Room

We’ll start from the ground up.

The living room is where most of us spend the majority of the time awake in our home, and there’s nothing better than being curled up on the sofa binge-watching Netflix. Aside from the obvious of making sure you have a comfy sofa, preferably one that reclines for maximum comfort levels, the rest of the room arguably matters more.

If you don’t have a fireplace but have always wanted that log-burner-first serene vibe, you can get electric ones that you only need to plug into a socket, not even drill into the wall. Watching the movement of the fire is peaceful, even if it isn’t the real thing.

A good rug to center the room is also nice, especially if you have wooden or tiled floors. Even if you don’t have those, a rug to center the room makes it feel more comfortable.

Always have soft and subdued lighting. You only need the light on when it’s dark outside, and nobody likes the big light. A warm glow from a lamp, maybe a candle or two, and the TV on is perfection.

The Bedroom

Moving from the sofa surrounded by cozy vibes into the bedroom filled with even more cozy vibes is like an out-of-body experience. Your kids deserve that too.

In the bedroom, in our opinion, it is the mattress that matters most. You can focus on decor all you want, but that’s only nice to look at. We’d always recommend letting your kids have input in the decor.

But their true comfort comes from the sigh of relief that leaves you as they climb into what has to be the comfiest bed in the world. For growing kids, a twin mattress is the perfect size. They can pick out throws and pillows to decorate it with, and maybe a lamp to put next to their bed in case they want to read at night.

The Guest Room

The guest room might not be as important; it depends on how many people stay over. If the answer is not many and you have more than one guest room, we’d absolutely suggest turning one of them into a reading nook or escape room for yourself.

Even if you don’t like reading (we recommend you get into that rather than doom scrolling), having a small space that’s your own to relax away from the living room and the bedroom is the perfect escape.

If you like the idea of a reading nook, all you need is:

  • A comfy chair
  • A bookshelf
  • A small table
  • An overhanging floor lamp

Four items and a full bookshelf, of course, are all you need to create a soothing escape from the rest of the house.

Your home is a constant investment, and part of that investment should always be comfort. There’s nothing worse than spending time in a room that you don’t truly feel happy in, and you don’t need to necessarily spend a lot to make a big difference.
